Sikkens Stain is now Proluxe Wood Stain
Sikkens Cetol SRD Stain not only excels in simulated durability testing, but also earns praise from professionals who stain houses, decks and other exterior surfaces for a living. No transparent stain will ever last as long as a solid stain or paint, but transparent stains such as Sikkens Cetol SRD do have one big advantage: Unlike solid stains and paints, which form a water-tight film on top of wood, transparent stains penetrate the wood itself, so they won't flake or peel the way paint or solid stain can after being exposed to the elements. This makes transparent stains the experts' choice for horizontal surfaces like decks -- which suffer harsher abuse from the sun and moisture than do vertical surfaces such as siding -- and for rough surfaces such as cedar shakes.
Colorado Sikkens questions
Can I buy the original Sikkens Cetol SRD in Colorado?
No — Colorado is on our VOC list, so the original 550 VOC Cetol SRD can’t be shipped there. Order Cetol SRD RE, the reduced-VOC version.
How fast does Sikkens ProLuxe ship to Colorado?
Orders placed by 4:00 PM Eastern ship the same day from our Michigan warehouse and typically arrive in about 2 days. Shipping is free to Colorado and the rest of the lower 48.
Is PPG ProLuxe the same as Sikkens?
Yes. PPG bought the Sikkens exterior wood line in 2013 and renamed it ProLuxe; PPG says the ProLuxe line contains all of the same Sikkens products and formulas. Today’s cans carry a “Same Sikkens formula — new name” badge.
